As we move into 2020, we’re exploring and expanding our menu options to be as “food-inclusive” as possible. For the last few years, there has been a fairly significant shift in the way people eat and how they think about food and we’ve taken notice–it’s kind of our job! Not only are people more health-conscious than they were in the past, but they are also not willing to sacrifice flavour and quality for healthy eating. Indeed, in the past, if one was vegan or vegetarian, not only were there not a lot of menu options, the food often lacked flavour (to put it politely).
No Compromise On Flavour
Today, the landscape of the vegan and vegetarian world has changed significantly. With restaurants like Acorn and Heirloom leading the way, they’ve raised the game and proved to Vancouverites that opting for a plant-based diet doesn’t mean having to compromise on flavour and gastronomic excitement–a fact that has inspired us to create plant-based menu options that are truly fabulous and flavourful!
A Talented Team
Savoury City’s Head Honcho, Donna Wadsworth, and her very talented team have created vegan and vegetarian menu options that will satisfy even the most discerning foodie in your life! Check out some of the menu items currently available!
This year, we’re embracing locally sourced, seasonal grilled veggies! Served hot and bursting with flavour, this dish is fast becoming a favourite of many of our clients! Our grilled vegetable platters may include asparagus, red and yellow peppers, zucchini, Japanese eggplant, snap peas, fennel, baby carrots and mushrooms, and are served with yogurt dill ranch.
Roll Over for Our Salad Rolls!
Another fabulous dish is our Vegetarian Salad Rolls. This delightful finger food is prepared with julienne of carrot, celery, red pepper, daikon and mango all wrapped in rice paper with a lovely spicy peanut sauce. With such a mouth-watering option, who needs meat!
Tomatoes, Cucumbers and Goat’s Cheese, Oh My!
Our Tomato Shortcake, made with parmesan shortcakes and topped with whipped goat’s cheese, cherry tomatoes and lemon olive oil and basil will leave you wanting more, as will our Asian Cucumber Cups, made with edamame hummus, shaved radish and pea shoots. It’s all about fresh and seasonal produce paired creatively with flavorful and fresh ingredients.
Mushrooms and Eggplants Galore!
Two of our favourite vegetarian menu items are the Wild Mushroom Orecchiette made with BC foraged mushrooms, sautéed arugula, mushroom stock, and extra virgin olive oil, and our Pan-Fried Eggplant prepared with fresh basil, capers and balsamic reduction. Simply, elegant, healthy and so much flavour!
Something for Everyone
There are so many creative, interesting and flavourful vegetarian options that we can’t mention them all in one blog entry, but the main takeaway is that with a plethora of options, you can rest assured that they’ll be fabulous food for all of your guests and no one will have to sacrifice or feel left out at the table!
