Country and barn weddings have risen in popularity over the past decade and we see no end to the trend, as more and more couples seem to be opting for “rustic and rural” over “delicate and ornate.” We totally understand why people love the concept. The mix of rural charm, outdoor beauty, and refined elegance make for memorable nuptials–a day that will leave an indelible mark on the collective memories of not only the bride and groom but the wedding guests as well. Simply put, a well organized and planned country wedding is an exquisite way to tie the knot!
Getting the Art Down to a Science
While we love all weddings, we especially enjoy the challenge of pulling off the perfect rural wedding! We’ve been custom catering country weddings (say that three times, fast!) for a very long time now and, in the process, we’ve got it down to a science. The key to a successful rural wedding is the ability to plan for contingencies. In short, you need to apply Murphy’s Law to any outdoor or rural event!
Indeed, before you even think about having a country wedding, you’ll want to employ this handy mnemonic device: BREW, which stands for:
- Bugs and Bathrooms
We’ll be happy to chat with you about the best ways to deal with BREW so that you can focus on the joy of your big day without the stress of worrying about the potential pitfalls of tying the knot in the great outdoors. Indeed, when it comes to outdoor weddings, we fully believe in the Boy Scouts motto: always be prepared!
Custom Catering in the Great Outdoors
One of the great joys of custom catering rural weddings is creating 5-star restaurant quality dishes in challenging and unique locations. It often means being creative, innovative, inventive and sometimes even ingenious! And while we have to deal with BREW, we take pride in always being able to deliver the highest quality dishes no matter what Mother Nature throws at us!
All our wedding couples are like our children, so it’s impossible for us to choose our favourite rural weddings, but these two are great examples:
Napa Elegance and Mexican Fun
The romantic hilltop family acreage overlooking the Fraser River in Langley BC. was the setting for Brianna and Hussein’s Napa-inspired catered country wedding. The location features pristine and unspoiled countryside which was amazing to behold. The menu was all about fun and added perfectly to the festive event. Guests were treated to Mexican street food with a dash of classic Southern comfort food like “Chicken & Waffles”. They had a blast building their own tacos served family-style while snacking on blistered “Padron Peppers” and “Crispy Brussels Sprouts.”
The Best of the Barn
Alycia and Cyrus’s rustic barn wedding was truly an out of the pages of a fairytale! From the beginning, it was A and C’s dream to have their special day on C’s family farm. The property is breathtaking with its long rolling vistas and neighbouring farms.
From India to Italy
The highlight of the evening was the sumptuous and wonderfully multicultural menu! Guests started off with Punjabi Samosas, and Onion Bhaji, and then moved into the first course of Centre Pizzas (a table sized pizza) and Spinach Salad. The third course consisted of 36 hour Barolo Beef Short Rib, Chicken Parm, Potato Dauphinoise and Warm Grilled Seasonal Vegetables. This was followed by a playful Donut Bar and a late-night snack of mini grilled cheese sandwiches! Perfect!
