I'm sure you're heard a lot about "Slow Food" in the last little while. In light of what has been happening with our food supply globally, the message has never been more timely.
So, what is Slow Food you ask?
Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic member-supported organization that was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.
We've been passionate members of Slow Food Vancouver since the chapter was started by Heidi Noble in 2003. While we must confess our hedonist tendencies when it comes to food, the love of food has lead us in the direction of the politics of food.
We want to know where our food comes from and who is producing it. To this end, we've forged relationships with the individuals providing us with our meat, fish, dairy, bread and poultry. We believe that by taking more control of our own food supply that we are in fact participating in community building which, to my mind, seems like the perfect antidote to faceless food behemoths.
