We never miss a chance to mix with other like-minded food professionals in the great outdoors for a cause that is so close to our hearts: the annual fundraising event in support of FarmFolk/CityFolk called Feast of Fields.
For those that don't know, FarmFolk/CityFolk is a non-profit society that works with farm & city to cultivate a local, sustainable food system in BC.
Our culinary contribution to the event was a savoury pear and olive oil cupcake - topped with a 'Farmhouse' blue cheese "buttercream, toasted Agassiz hazelnuts, 'Klipper's' sun-dried apple chip and finished with a drizzle of balsamic glaze. It may sound unusual, but the combination proved to be a winning one.
If the sold-out celebration is any indication, then awareness for a local and sustainable food system will continue to grow, and snap peas from China will be a thing of the past.
