Catering Vancouver

UBC Farm, a fully operational 24-hectare farm found within the borders of Vancouver, definitely provides a unique venue for a wedding. The farm is run by the Centre for Sustainable Food Systems, which is part of UBC's Faculty of Land and Food Systems. The setting is gorgeous, complete with lush pastoral landscapes, orchards and greenhouses, not to mention chickens and honey bees. Our pals David and Maurizio at Debut Event Design handled the amazing decor.

As their caterers, we were very thankful that Ruth and Olivier were blessed with perfect weather for their wedding on August 28th. 160 guests strolled between a main reception area located under a huge clear domed tent, to a quiet area nestled in a stand of poplar trees where cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were served.

As much as we wanted to, no, we didn't harvest the evening meal from the farm itself. Instead, we opted for the next best thing; locally sourced sustainable food grown nearby. Featured items were marinated 'Pemberton Meadows' Flank Steak courtesy of our friends at Two Rivers Meats, fresh caught 'Johnson's Strait' Salmon from our pals at Deluxe Seafood, 'Glorious Garnish' salad greens, tri-coloured heritage carrots, fingerling potatoes and stunning yellow and green beans from Biovia. Rounding out the family-style dinner were house made Red Haven peach galettes, crème brulee tartlets, mille feuille, chocolate-caramel fleur de sel tarts, and dark chocolate mouse shots.

Our day on the farm was picture perfect. We had a fabulous time making the day memorable for Ruth and Olivier, and wish them the very best in their new life in New York city!
